Samara's Attempted Poisoning of Callum
The Secret VampireSamara's Attempted Poisoning of Callum is a plot to kill Callum with a drink at Vampire Castle. Callum's decision not to drink immediately—and his test of the liquid—prevents the poison from taking effect, turning Samara's quiet hospitality into evidence of her threat and setting the attempted murder within her wider scheme to control the royal family.
Setup and Intended Target
Samara prepares a drink for Callum after he returns to Vampire Castle, where Vlad welcomes him home. Callum says that Celeste has been found and is in the hospital, then asks where Elise is because he wants to speak with her. The exchange places his concern for the people closest to him alongside Samara's concealed plans: she has prepared the drink specifically for him while presenting herself as a gracious host.
The danger is not merely implied. Elise films Samara holding up a goblet and declaring that Callum will be dead after drinking it. When Samara catches Elise recording, Elise confronts her over her plans to marry Vlad and harm Callum. Samara grabs Elise, drags her to the dungeons, smashes her phone, and threatens her into silence. The recording is therefore a direct but suppressed witness to the plot: Elise knows what the drink is meant to do, but Samara removes both the witness from the household and the device containing her evidence.
The Poisoned Drink
Samara brings three glasses of juice into the room and gives one to Vlad before offering another to Callum, urging him to drink. Callum does not accept the gesture at face value. Looking at the cup, he wonders why Samara has prepared the drink and what she is planning. Vlad drinks his glass, but Callum says he will go upstairs to rest and have his later. His refusal to drink at once is the decisive interruption: Samara's plan depends on Callum consuming the liquid, and he denies her that opportunity without openly accusing her.
Upstairs, Callum pours the drink from his goblet onto a plant and watches it slowly die. The test makes the concealed threat visible through its consequence. He recognizes that Samara tried to poison him, while her plan remains unknown to the rest of the room. His survival comes from suspicion followed by a concrete test, not from an antidote or an intervention after poisoning has begun.
Failed Attempt and Wider Scheme
Samara's reaction confirms that the poison has failed. When Callum later returns downstairs and says he is hungry, she is stunned to find him unharmed and wonders whether he drank the potion. She recovers her composure and offers to prepare food, while Vlad follows her into the kitchen. Callum has discovered the danger, but the scene does not show him confronting her or revealing what he has learned at that moment. The attempt therefore ends without a public reckoning; suspicion and knowledge remain unevenly distributed within the household.
The poisoning plot forms part of Samara's effort to secure power through her influence over Vlad. Earlier, she uses a potion to take Carmilla's form, traps Vlad with a silver chain, and manipulates him into believing that he must avenge Carmilla by killing Celeste. Later, Samara's crimes are exposed, and she confesses that she killed Carmilla and Celeste's mother because she wanted power and wanted to become the world's most powerful witch. The failed drink reveals a further dimension of that ambition: Samara is willing to remove Callum, Vlad's son and a potential obstacle, rather than limit her manipulation to disguises and spells.
Dramatic Function
The episode is built around a contrast between the drink's ordinary appearance and its intended lethal effect. Samara serves juice in a domestic setting, but Elise's recording and Callum's experiment expose the violence concealed within the gesture. The plant's death supplies a visible test when the poison itself is not seen acting on a person, while Callum's restraint keeps the attempt from becoming an actual poisoning.
The scene also links two endangered members of Vlad's family. Elise is silenced and confined after discovering the plot; Callum escapes because he doubts the drink and tests it. Their different positions show how Samara's scheme works through both physical danger and control of information. Although Callum survives, the failed attempt confirms that the threat inside Vampire Castle is not only the violence directed at its human visitors: Samara has made the royal household itself a place of concealed danger.
